Indian Institute for Adventure Applications Honnemardu

Indian Institute for Adventure Applications, Honnemardu is a training institute in the wilderness, which emphasizes on outdoor learning. In agreement with The Adventurers’ philosophy of co-existence with nature, an aqua sport center was set up at Honnemardu in 1992. Situated on the banks of the Sharavathy, on the Linganamakki reservoir, its location makes it an ideal blend of adventure sports and nature studies. IIAA promotes outdoor learning, environmental conservation, social and cultural development through adventure sport and eco-tourism activities.

Promoted by the parent body, The Adventurers – A Wilderness School, the Indian Institute for Adventure Applications (IIAA) at Honnemardu offers courses in Adventure Applications for interested students.

IIAA offers One-year Vocational Composite Training in Adventure & Allied Activities, which focuses on hard skills in adventure, Adventure based studies like Wilderness First Aid and Safety, using the medium of Adventure for management training and training in any selected area in the outdoors.

Besides the training perspective, eco-tourists from across the globe come to IIAA to participate in aqua sport activities.

Activities at Honnemardu

Camping
Campsites at Honnemardu are perfect to experiment with tent pitching and shelter building. An open campfire is a wonderful way to compliment a meal under the stars. One will also learn the philosophy of no trace camping to emphasize the spirit of environmental conservation.

Swimming
The vast stretch of flat water dotted with islands is serene and inviting for a swim at any time of the day. The Adventurers welcome both beginners and expert swimmers and the life jacket drill is necessary for all participants to begin the activity. One of our volunteers is always at hand to provide assistance and guidance.

Coracling
Coracles are unique round crafts that are sturdy on flat waters, and thus used as an introductory boating activity. Due to their shape, they can spin wildly in circles, making them the main attraction for first time boaters. Coracles are ideal for small groups of 4 to 6 people.

Canoeing
A canoe is a two seater, open decked boat that demands both balance and coordination. Having had a basic explanation of paddling strokes by the volunteers, one can experiment with its maneuverability and navigational finesse.

Rafting
Raft is the simplest type of watercraft. Modern rafts called rubber dinghies are in use today. The rubber dinghy is a boat consisting of a rubber shaped tube filled with air. It is a favorite among aqua enthusiasts since can take a lot of load due to the air it is floating on and will hardly capsize. Raft jumping is exciting and one of the most enjoyed activities at IIAA.

Kayaking
A kayak is a close decked, single seated boat, propelled with a double bladed paddle. The individual’s concentration and technique make for a challenging undertaking. Kayaks, being sleek, long and narrow shaped crafts, are the fastest boats manned solely by human power.

Windsurfing
Windsurfing is the most demanding of aqua sports offered at Honnemardu. It requires boat balance, control of the sail and an understanding of the winds. It tests strength and stamina and is intended for people who opt for bigger challenges than those provided by boating.
